Marriage and family planning look like private decisions until parents get involved, and this DW film follows two women navigating that pressure on opposite sides of the world. Yoyo, 30, lives with her parents in Taipei and tells them she plans to marry a woman, a shock even though Taiwan legalized same-sex marriage in 2019; her parents worry about discrimination and about her wish to have children. In Cairo, Esraa, also in her early thirties, has already married, had a daughter, and divorced, in a country with one of the world's highest divorce rates. Her parents believe marriage should be permanent and struggle to decide whether to push her toward remarrying or support her as a single mother. The film moves between the two households, using conversations with parents and daughters to show how tradition, security, and love collide across generations. Grandparents get their say too, caught between disapproval and attachment to grandchildren. Two cities, two very different legal and religious contexts, one recognizable argument.
