Married to the Eiffel Tower

45 MIN · EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Erika LaBrie legally married the Eiffel Tower in a ceremony she considers as real as any wedding, and she is not alone. This film follows her and two other women who identify as objectum sexuals, people who form romantic and emotional attachments to objects rather than people: a woman devoted to a church fence, another to a piece of playground equipment turned lifelong companion. Interviews let each woman explain her relationships in her own terms, describing courtship, commitment, and grief when an object is damaged or removed, while psychologists and skeptical family members offer the outside view the women rarely get. The camera follows them to the structures themselves, watching how they touch, talk to, and photograph objects most people walk past without a glance. Rather than treating the condition as a punchline, the film sits with the loneliness underneath it, the difficulty of dating, and the isolation of loving something that cannot love back. It ends without resolving whether this is pathology, orientation, or something in between.
