Carl Jung has been dead for decades by the time this film gathers the people who actually knew him, and their memories carry the weight of firsthand witness rather than academic summary. Marie-Louise von Franz and Sir Laurens van der Post, both close associates and analysts in their own right, sit for extended interviews about Jung's ideas on the unconscious, dreams, and the psyche as something as real and strange as any object in the physical world. Rare archival footage shows Jung himself, in his own voice, describing concepts like archetypes and individuation that reshaped twentieth-century psychology. The film moves between this footage and present-day conversation, letting colleagues and family describe both the theorist and the man, including his break with Freud and the years he spent developing his own school of thought at Bollingen. It works less as a biography with dates and more as a portrait built from the testimony of people who studied under him and lived by his ideas.
