Meet the Chaplain for Germany's Elite Soldiers
Michael is a military chaplain assigned to Germany's Special Operations Forces, and this film follows him through the routines that make up his job: a stress test on the shooting range, arctic training exercises in Canada, and deployment during Afghanistan's Operation "Mah Taabi." He talks with soldiers about separation from their families, the deaths of comrades, and the emotional weight missions leave behind, describing a shift in the force's culture from silence about mental strain to open acknowledgment of it. The film also introduces Stefan, a Special Operations drill sergeant, and a sergeant major nicknamed the "company mother" who looks after the unit's welfare. Music comes up as one coping tool soldiers use to process extreme situations. Shot with access to training grounds and deployment footage rarely opened to cameras, the film stays close to its subjects rather than offering outside commentary, building a portrait of the support structure behind soldiers whose work is otherwise defined by physical toughness and secrecy.
