Lord Christopher Monckton has spent years touring auditoriums and television studios telling audiences that mainstream climate science is wrong, and filmmaker Rupert Murray follows him to find out why so many people believe him. The film sits in on his talks to the public and to politicians, then turns to the arguments themselves: claims that global temperatures have not risen significantly, that human activity isn't driving the change, and that the underlying science is unreliable. Murray weighs each claim against the scientific consensus, while also giving space to the genuine disagreements that exist among climate researchers about specifics rather than fundamentals. The more interesting material is personal rather than statistical, as interviews probe why sceptics hold their positions, whether from distrust of institutions, political conviction, or real scientific doubt. Rather than simply debunking Monckton, the film tries to understand the appeal of his message and what it says about public trust in expertise.
