Five real demolition jobs and a wrap-up episode make up this series, each one built around the seconds-long implosion that ends months of planning. A 170-meter tower comes down next to a public highway, forcing extra safety measures for nearby traffic. Crews take out the O. K. Allen Bridge and a bridge in Manchester with sequenced charges timed to drop the spans cleanly into the water or riverbed below. The toughest job here is eight towers demolished in one operation, where a stray piece of debris or a structure falling the wrong way could be catastrophic, and a giant residential block surrounded by hundreds of occupied homes. Host Brendan Moar closes out the series with a look at the engineers, riggers, and machine operators who make these implosions possible, and at the physics of getting a multi-ton structure to fold in on itself instead of tipping over. The footage is mostly on-site: countdown clocks, explosive charge placement, and the collapses themselves from multiple angles.
