Actor Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) goes behind the scenes of the private security industry, a global business generating over 100 billion dollars a year and disproportionately staffed by Irish operators. The first part follows ex-Special Forces soldier Paul Butler from the villas of the French Riviera, guarding the super-wealthy, to the diamond mines of Liberia, one of the most hostile working environments Cunningham visits. The second part travels to the Seychelles, where three Irish ex-Defence Forces personnel have taken on kidnapping, extortion, drug trafficking, and piracy threats facing the island nation, whose waters carry roughly a third of the world's oil shipping. Cunningham interviews the contractors directly about pay, risk, and the ethics of working for hire in unstable regions, while the film sets their personal accounts against the wider economics of an industry that keeps growing as governments outsource security work once done by their own militaries.
