#MeToo in Bollywood
Five years after the #MeToo movement reached India's film industry, DW correspondents Akanksha Saxena and Neerat Kaur ask what actually changed. Bollywood produces more than a thousand films a year for an audience DW puts at 3 billion worldwide, built on song-and-dance spectacle and larger-than-life stardom, but the reporting turns to the allegations that hit prominent producers, directors, and actors once women started speaking publicly about harassment and assault. Few of those cases ever reached a courtroom, and the film traces who actually paid a professional price: not the accused men, in most cases, but the women who came forward. Interviews with people inside the industry lay out how whistleblowers found themselves quietly frozen out of work while the men they named kept working. The film stays focused and specific, using Bollywood's #MeToo moment as a test case for how accountability functions, or fails to, in an industry built on image and patronage.
