Mexico's drug war gets tracked from the cartel-controlled hills of Michoacán to the borderlands of Ciudad Juárez, with homicide investigators, vigilantes, and community leaders describing what it costs to hold a territory. The film follows the avocado trade's hidden violence, where farmers pay extortion while plantation owners keep the profits, and travels to Cherán, where women organized an uprising that pushed out the cartels and set up a self-governing community that still controls its own forests. National Guard units clash with armed groups in the mountains, and border patrols describe the daily risk of confronting smugglers and cartel lookouts along the frontier. Built from frontline access and interviews with people living inside the conflict, the film moves between farms, checkpoints, and patrol routes rather than staying in one region, tracing how cartel money reaches from avocado orchards to smuggling routes and what resistance to it actually looks like on the ground.
