Minnesota's public schools are the setting for this film about bullying and teen suicide, built entirely from the testimony of students who lived through it. Director Alec Fischer was seventeen when he made it, turning a camera on classmates willing to describe being targeted at school and what it did to them afterward. There are no experts or narrators standing between the viewer and the students; the film is structured as a series of first-person accounts, kids talking about fear, isolation, and in some cases suicidal thoughts brought on by treatment from peers. The title plays against Minnesota's reputation for friendliness, using that contrast to frame the interviews that follow. The film stays close to the school hallway and the individual story rather than widening into policy or expert analysis, letting the students' own words carry the weight of what happens when bullying goes unaddressed.
