Earth's story begins in violence: repeated asteroid collisions build the planet from cosmic debris, and a single giant impact blasts off enough material to form the Moon. This series traces how a molten, airless rock became the only known world with oceans, an atmosphere, and life, using computer animation, geological footage, and scientist interviews to walk through each transformation. It covers the bombardment period, the cooling of the crust, the origins of the first oceans, and the slow buildup of oxygen that made complex life possible, showing how the Moon's gravity stabilized Earth's tilt and how plate tectonics kept recycling the surface over billions of years. Rather than treating Earth's habitability as a given, the film frames it as a chain of near-accidents, any one of which could have produced a dead planet instead. The scale moves between planetary and microscopic, from asteroid impacts to the chemistry inside early cells, tracking the same question throughout: what exactly had to go right.
