In the Bavarian Alps, mountain rescue teams respond to emergencies that overconfident hikers and sudden weather changes create. On the Blaueis Glacier, a young mountaineer is stranded alone as thick fog rolls in, and the Ramsau Mountain Rescue Service sends two teams to search for him before hypothermia sets in, their own sense of direction tested by the same fog that trapped him. Elsewhere, a helicopter crew scrambles after a hiker falls 40 meters, with no word yet on his condition and rescuers bracing for the worst based on experience with falls of that height. Both callouts end well, but the film does not let viewers forget the cost when they don't: it returns to the memory of Peter Hildebrandt, a former Ramsau operations chief who fell to his death during a mission. Built from real rescue footage and interviews with the teams involved, the film follows the volunteers and professionals who accept that each callout could be their last.
