Two short documentaries from the Irish outfit Mobius Studio, paired under one release. "Turning The Tables," directed by Mark Fitzsimons, traces Waterford's house and techno scene across roughly twenty years, talking to the promoters, DJs, and club regulars who kept it running through lean stretches, among them figures tied to Republik Music, Crystal Night Club, and local station Beat FM. The film's case is that a small Irish city built a scene with an international reputation, and it lets the people who built it explain how. The second short, "Mythos," turns to filmmaker and artist Paul Bolger, watching him at work and talking about what draws him to stories buried in the past. It runs shorter and stays closer to observation than narrative, offering fewer specifics about Bolger's actual projects than the Waterford film offers about its scene. Together the two shorts work as a small survey of creative life outside Dublin, one dance floor at a time and one artist's process at a time.
