Three children, three routes to class. Seven-year-old Stas lives on the Siberian tundra and travels for hours by sled across the ice to reach a rendezvous point where a helicopter collects the region's nomadic children for boarding school. In India, ten-year-old Chanda rises at dawn in a mining village and walks an hour through the haze of one of the world's most polluted regions before she can put on her uniform. In Burma, siblings San and Wai know the temples around them well enough to sell drawings to tourists there, because only that income covers the school fees they need to make the two-hour trek across rice fields to class. The film follows each child through their daily routine, showing the terrain, the family work that comes before or after school, and the reasoning behind why the journey is worth it. It is part of a series covering similarly difficult school commutes in other countries.
