Two Mexican regions, two versions of the same daily gamble. In Oaxaca, 13-year-old Luz María walks 4.4 kilometers from the Triqui indigenous community of Loma Ancha with her sister Araceli and cousin Yahir, through a state marked by land conflict, to reach a school that teaches in Spanish and their mother tongue. In Baja California Sur, 11-year-old Maribel and her 8-year-old brother Juan Jesús set out from a desert farm called San Gregorio, passing near the ancient cave paintings of the Sierra de San Francisco, in a household where she also helps milk goats and make cheese before and after class. The film follows each child on foot along the routes they take year-round, with footage of the terrain, the families' homes, and the schools waiting at the end. It is part of the ongoing series tracking how children in remote communities around the world get an education, treating the walk itself as the story rather than an obstacle to rush past.
