Jose Melendez goes by Mr. Gold on the street, and this portrait film lets him tell his own story in his own words. He has been arrested twenty-one times and spent eleven years total behind bars, and he has appeared on the Maury show twice for paternity tests, moments the film treats as part of the record rather than punchlines. The camera follows him through the neighborhood that shaped him, letting him narrate the hustles, the prison stretches, and the reputation that earned him his nickname.
