Mumbai holds 22 million people already, with projections putting that number near 30 million by 2035, and this film tracks the collision between that growth and the city's limited land. In Dharavi, Asia's largest slum, over a million residents live packed into two square kilometers running an underground economy estimated at 800 million euros a year. Mahesh, 27, was born there and runs a recycling plant employing about 20 people, and has no intention of leaving. The film follows real estate developer Babulal Varma, who works with the municipality to clear slums for luxury towers on land some of Dharavi's residents call home. As construction pushes into Sanjay Gandhi National Park, fifty resident leopards start wandering into new housing estates, killing stray dogs and, some years, people, prompting forest rangers to run night patrols against incursions. Interviews with residents, developers, and rangers move between the slum's informal economy, the politics of redevelopment, and the wildlife caught in the middle, building a picture of a city expanding in every direction at once.
