A storytelling and language session from the Institute for Advanced Study's School of Historical Studies, part of its annual Munsee Delaware Story Evening series. Kristin Jacobs of Eelunaapeewi Lahkeewiit tells the story Éenda Pumchéhlayeengw Lakehead Shkoolíikaan in the Munsee language and in English, and discusses its background with fellow speakers Ian McCallum and John Nicholas of the Munsee-Delaware Nation. The three talk through the work of interpreting and translating oral narrative between Lunaape and English, touching on how meaning and idiom shift across the two languages. Artist Ella Johnston describes her approach to illustrating the stories for publication. Recorded over Zoom on March 17, 2025, the session functions as a working seminar in Indigenous language documentation and oral tradition as much as a performance, aimed at students of Lunaape language and Munsee-Delaware cultural history.
