Munsee Delaware speakers Ian McCallum and John Nicholas, joined by Kristin Jacobs of Eelunaapeewi Lahkeewiit, gather for the fourth annual Munsee Delaware Story Evening, hosted over Zoom by the School of Historical Studies at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Recorded on March 17, 2025, the session presents three traditional stories told in both Munsee and English, including Kristin Jacobs's telling of Eenda Pumchehlayeengw Lakehead Shkooliikaan and Ian McCallum's rendition of the Nicholas family story First Kiss of Snow. Between stories, the speakers discuss the background of each tale and the work of translating and interpreting it for a bilingual audience. Artist Ella Johnston, of the Munsee-Delaware Nation, explains how she develops illustrations for the stories, and the group previews future work on a Logan family story. The event doubles as a language-preservation session, showing how oral storytelling, translation, and visual art combine to keep Munsee narrative traditions active.
