My Life as a Female Bodybuilder: It's My Body Armour

2015 · EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Rene Campbell, 38, describes herself as 'bigorexic': fixated on getting as large as possible through strict eating and near-constant training. The film follows her through gym sessions and meal prep, watching the discipline required to build and maintain a physique most people would call extreme, and lets her explain why she wants it. For Campbell the muscle is not vanity but protection, a literal body armor built to keep her safe and in control after years of feeling otherwise. Interviews with her push past the surface of competitive bodybuilding into the psychology underneath it: the compulsion to keep growing, the relationship with food as fuel rather than pleasure, and the toll that regimen takes on a body pushed toward its outer limits. Shot in a plain observational style with Campbell narrating her own choices, the film treats her condition without sensationalism, presenting bodybuilding as coping mechanism rather than spectacle, and leaves the viewer to weigh whether armor built from muscle actually protects her.
