Nancy Wake: Gestapo's Most Wanted

68 MIN · EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Nancy Wake spent her early career as a journalist in Paris before the German occupation turned her into one of the most hunted operatives of the French Resistance. The film traces her transformation from a glamorous expatriate reporter into the Gestapo's top target, a courier and saboteur so elusive they nicknamed her the White Mouse. Interviews and archival photographs cover her marriage to French industrialist Henri Fiocca, her escape over the Pyrenees after the Gestapo closed in on her network, and her eventual training with Britain's Special Operations Executive, which parachuted her back into occupied France to arm and organize resistance fighters. Her decorations after the war, including the George Medal and the Croix de Guerre, are laid out alongside the human cost of her work, including the fate of her husband at the hands of the Gestapo. The film stays close to the facts of a life that reads like fiction, using period photographs and expert commentary rather than dramatization to make its case for her as one of the war's most effective and least publicized agents.
