Khayelitsha, the sprawling township outside Cape Town founded in the mid-1980s when apartheid authorities forced Black residents out of the city, is now home to gangs and extortion rackets that thrive on decades of neglect. The film follows Dino, a young gang member for whom crime looks like the only available path, and traces the reach of Mr. X, an extortionist whose rackets choke off local business and deepen poverty. Against that backdrop, Luyolo runs a mentorship program called Langa for Men, taking boys on trips to the ocean as an alternative to street life, while Monde, chairman of the Community Policing Forum, works with police to improve safety. Mamma Fillika leads a women's neighborhood watch that patrols dangerous streets unarmed and unpaid, functioning as a visible deterrent to criminals.
