Filmmaker Anabel Rodríguez Ríos returns to Caracas in December 2025 to mourn her stepfather Nelson, who died after treatment his family could not afford under Venezuela's collapsed healthcare system. She is still there when US warships gather off the coast and President Trump threatens Nicolás Maduro over accusations of narco-terrorism, followed by American strikes on Venezuelan boats that leave more than a hundred dead without international legal mandate. On the night of 3 January 2026 she is woken by bombs as the US strikes Venezuela directly; Maduro and his wife are captured and flown to the United States for indictment. Shot in real time from her own perspective, the film follows her through a city where New Year's Eve street parties continue even as American corporations move to claim Venezuelan oil. She talks with human rights activists, families of political prisoners, and torture survivors who describe enforced disappearances and arbitrary arrests, and turns the camera on her own family's conversations about a country caught between hope, fear, and resignation.
