The Monastery of St. Simon the Zealot sits in Abkhazia, and this film follows one full day inside its walls, from the monks' first prayers at dawn to the quiet that settles over the grounds at nightfall. Made with the blessing of Dorofei (Dbar), chairman of the Council of the Holy Metropolitanate of Abkhazia, and Hieromonk Andrei (Ampar), the monastery's father superior, the camera stays close to the routines that structure monastic life: chanted services in the church, work in the gardens, shared meals, and stretches of silent contemplation. There are no reenactments or outside narration driving the story, just the day itself unfolding in real time, with the monks' own voices and the sounds of the liturgy carrying most of the film. Director Sergei Yazvinskiy shoots the monastery's interiors and surrounding landscape plainly, letting the pace of the day, slow, repetitive, unhurried, make its own case for what this life actually looks like from the inside.
