Heavy water, produced at the Vemork plant in Nazi-occupied Norway, sat at the center of Germany's push toward atomic weapons, and this film tracks the Allied effort to shut that program down before it could deliver a bomb to Hitler. It lays out the physics of nuclear fission plainly enough to follow, then moves into the operational history: failed glider-borne raids, the recruiting and training of Norwegian commandos in Britain, and their eventual parachute drop into the frozen highlands above the plant.
