Stonehenge has been picked apart by archaeologists for centuries, but this two-part BBC series turns a set of high-tech survey tools on the ground around it rather than the stones themselves. Presenter Samuel West follows teams using drones, laser scanning, and ground-penetrating radar to map what lies beneath the surrounding fields, and the results push the monument out of isolation: nearby burial mounds, timber structures, and what looks like a much larger ceremonial complex spread across the landscape. The bluestones get particular attention, traced back to a site in Wales that appears to have already held ritual significance before the stones were hauled to Salisbury Plain, which suggests they carried meaning beyond raw material. Evidence of feasting debris and trade goods turns up too, pointing to Stonehenge as a gathering place for the living as much as a monument to the dead. The series follows the fieldwork as it happens, letting the radar and laser data build the picture piece by piece rather than presenting Stonehenge's history as already settled.
