Weather systems, traffic jams, and the expansion of the universe all share something odd: patterns emerge from what looks like pure disorder. Astrophysicist John Barrow of the University of Cambridge leads the argument here, tracing how chaotic processes settle into recognizable order, from the earliest moments after the Big Bang roughly 13.7 billion years ago to the everyday churn of a highway at rush hour. The film uses this lens to revisit a string of scientific turning points, including the 1973 hypothesis that man-made gases were thinning the ozone layer, an idea dismissed at first and later confirmed by enough evidence to produce the Montreal Protocol. It also follows science's move inward, from cosmic scales down to the discovery of DNA's structure and the practical technologies that discovery made possible.
