Our Labor of Love
Out of Africa Wildlife Park in Arizona employs a small staff of caretakers who spend their days feeding, cleaning enclosures, and handling animals ranging from big cats to birds of prey. This short piece follows them through those routines, set to the song "Soaring High" rather than narration or interviews, so the caretakers' work is shown rather than explained. The footage moves between close contact moments, a keeper scratching a lion through the fence, a bird perched on an outstretched arm, and wider shots of the park's grounds under the desert sun. There is no voiceover walking through the ethics of captivity or the park's conservation program; the images and music are left to make the case that this is work done out of attachment to the animals rather than routine obligation. It plays more like a tribute reel to the staff than a reported documentary, running only long enough to introduce the park and its residents.
