Lusaka Central Prison holds far more men than it was built for, and this episode follows William, two years into pretrial detention on car theft and murder charges, as he tries to hold his family together from inside. A prison counselor named Hastings arranges a visit with William's wife Mutinta, who has secretly remarried while he's been locked up. William refuses to accept it, pushing to win her back even as it threatens her new marriage and, he worries, the safety of their daughter, from whom he has had no contact in six months. The film moves between William's cell, the counseling sessions, and the strained meetings with Mutinta, letting the overcrowding and the uncertainty of an unresolved trial sit in the background of a very personal domestic crisis. It's part of the World's Toughest Prisons series, and it uses one inmate's stalled marriage to show what indefinite pretrial detention does to the people waiting on both sides of the bars.
