Dinosaur bones can carry the record of an old injury or illness the same way a human skeleton does, and this episode of Paleoworld goes looking for that evidence. Paleontologists examine fossilized bone for healed fractures, bite marks, and signs of disease, reading each mark as a clue to how a specific animal lived and what eventually hurt it. The episode is part of the original run for The Learning Channel, made in 1994, when the show was in its first of four seasons before wrapping in 1997 across fifty episodes total. As with the rest of the series, the focus stays on method: how a scientist tells a battle wound from a birth defect, or an infection from ordinary wear, using the fossil record as the only witness. There's no reenactment footage or dramatic narration promised here, just researchers working through what damaged bone can and can't tell you about a creature that died millions of years ago.
