Child poverty in Britain, told through the children living it. The film follows kids like Courtney, Sam, and Paige as they describe what it means to go without heating, new clothes, or enough food, speaking directly to camera about school, home, and the shame that comes with being poor in a wealthy country. Their families show the daily arithmetic of managing on benefits or low wages: which bills get paid, which meals get skipped, what gets sold or pawned before the end of the month. There is no narrator standing between the viewer and the children's own words; the camera sits in cramped flats and school corridors and lets them explain their situation in their own terms. The film uses their accounts to make a wider argument about the widening gap between rich and poor in the U.K., but it never loses sight of the individual children at its center, whose ordinary hopes, for a bedroom of their own or a birthday party, are shown against the reality of what their families can actually afford.
