Pride, Pole & Prejudice

2015 · EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Pole dancing has moved out of strip clubs and into ordinary gyms and dance studios across the UK, and this film follows the instructors and students driving that shift. Tutors talk through how they teach the sport as fitness and performance art rather than as adult entertainment, and the film sits in on classes where beginners work through spins, holds, and floorwork alongside more experienced dancers preparing for competition. The camera follows the debate that trails the activity everywhere it goes: whether pole dancing can shed its sexualized reputation and be judged the way gymnastics or aerial silks are judged, purely on strength and technique. Practitioners describe the physical toll, the bruises and grip strength required, and the pushback they get from people who assume the worst about what they do for a living or for a hobby. The film stays close to the studios and the people running them rather than chasing a verdict, letting the tension between artistry and prejudice sit unresolved.
