Four women, four decisions to marry men behind bars. Zabrina, 28, from Florida, has fallen for Damon Thrash, a cocaine dealer eight years into a 20-year sentence, after a courtship conducted almost entirely by letter; their wedding-day kiss will be the couple's first physical contact. Marzena, a Polish-born woman living in Wales, travels to a prison in Malta to introduce her incarcerated husband to Blossom, the baby born after his conviction, so the family can use conjugal visits granted to married couples. Marines, 35, from Puerto Rico, marries partly to end a three-and-a-half-year visitation ban. Jenn, a single mother of two abandoned by her ex, meets Brandon, serving time for armed robbery, through another inmate's correspondence and decides to try again. The film gets close access to each woman in the weeks before her wedding and films the ceremonies themselves, sitting with the brides' hopes and doubts rather than mocking them, and letting prison chaplains, family members, and the women's own letters fill in how each relationship actually started.
