Inside California's Maple Street Correctional Center, cameras follow female inmates through intake, housing, and release, tracking how a women's prison actually runs day to day. The chaotic booking area is where addiction and medical crises surface first, and the film spends real time with Natasha as she goes through severe drug withdrawal behind bars. Elsewhere, inmates Lo and Kayla carry on a relationship that violates prison rules, risking disciplinary action for something the facility cannot fully stamp out. Officers describe the daily balancing act of enforcing order while managing inmates who are, in many cases, also victims of addiction and trauma. The film moves through specialized housing units built to prepare women for release, following some inmates as they approach the door back to the outside world and the uncertainty waiting there. Structured in three chapters, from detox to forbidden romance to the cost of freedom, it stays close to individual stories rather than policy debates, letting the routines of confinement speak for themselves.
