Ruth Miller retired from teaching in Leicester and decided sewing quilts and playing Scrabble weren't enough, so she started a punk band and then began coaching other women with little or no musical experience to form their own. Her 'unglamorous music' project eventually produced sixteen female punk bands in the city, and the film follows the run-up to a concert bringing them all together, with acts including Mental Load, Virginia's Wolves, Venus Ataxx, and Velvet Crisis. Dina, a guitarist and vocalist in Virginia's Wolves and a single mother, describes how getting on stage for the first time gave her back an identity beyond being known only as someone's mum. Interviews with band members and rehearsal and performance footage trace how the project grew from one woman's late-life reinvention into a wider movement spreading to other British cities. Ruth Miller died of cancer shortly after filming wrapped, and the documentary closes as a tribute to a project that keeps running without her.
