Queen: Mercury Rising

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Freddie Mercury's story begins as Farrokh Bulsara, a boy growing up in Zanzibar and then boarding school in India, long before Queen existed. The film traces how that early life, shaped by displacement and a strict Parsi upbringing, fed into the persona he built once he reached London and started performing with the band that became Queen. Archival footage and interviews cover the band's rise through the 1970s, the theatrical stage shows, and the songwriting that made Mercury one of rock's most recognizable frontmen, alongside the private life he kept largely hidden from the public even as his fame grew. The film moves toward his death in 1991, using it as the vantage point from which the rest of the story is told, asking how a boy from Zanzibar became one of the most flamboyant performers in music history. It stays focused on Mercury himself rather than the band's full catalog, treating his biography as the throughline for Queen's story.
