In Moscow he meets gay Russians living under constant threat alongside the vigilantes and officials who justify the country's anti-gay laws, testing why attitudes there diverge so sharply from the UK's. The final segment puts him inside meetings and marches with Russia's resurgent nationalist and far-right groups, sitting down with young men who openly describe their racism and ambitions for the country. Yates works as an on-camera participant throughout, asking blunt questions and letting subjects' own words carry the argument, from a modeling agent's cold math on contract odds to a nationalist explaining who he believes doesn't belong in Russia. The three episodes together sketch a country pulling in several directions at once.
