Return to Africa's Witch Children

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

In Nigeria's Akwa Ibom state, children accused of witchcraft by self-styled pastors have been abandoned, beaten, and sometimes killed by their own families. This follow-up film returns to the children first met in an earlier investigation, checking on what happened to them since. It revisits Sam Itauma, who runs a shelter for accused children, and follows some of them years on, tracking whether rescue actually meant safety or just a pause before more violence. Interviews with survivors, family members, and local activists lay out how preachers built profitable ministries around casting out child witches, and how belief in witchcraft translates into starvation, mutilation, and exile for kids as young as a few years old. The camera goes into the villages and churches where these accusations happen, not just the aftermath, showing pastors performing exorcisms and parents explaining why they turned on their own children. The film asks what, if anything, changed after the first exposure, and the answer is not reassuring.
