Revenge of the Electric Car

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Four men bet that the electric car industry killed off a decade earlier is ready for a second try. Director Chris Paine follows Bob Lutz, the GM executive pushing the Chevy Volt through a bankrupt company, Carlos Ghosn, betting Nissan's future on the mass-market Leaf, and Elon Musk, scrambling to keep Tesla solvent long enough to ship the Model S. A fourth figure, hobbyist mechanic Greg Abbott, converts gas guzzlers into electric cars out of a garage in Southern California, the little guy working the same problem as the billion-dollar companies. The film catches Tesla near collapse during the 2008 financial crisis and GM emerging from bankruptcy with the Volt as a bet on its own future. Boardrooms, assembly lines, and test tracks carry the story alongside interviews with the executives and engineers making the calls. It plays as a direct rebuttal to the industry's earlier retreat, this time with the cars actually reaching driveways.
