Ricky Syers is a fifty-year-old street performer who turned to puppeteering after years of manual labor, working the sidewalks and subway platforms of New York City. The film follows how his performances led to an unlikely bond with Doris, an older woman who becomes a fixture in his daily routine and, in turn, his life. Shot on the streets where Ricky works, the film watches the two together as they talk, laugh, and navigate the small rituals that make up their friendship, with Ricky's puppet shows as the backdrop and sometimes the subject of their conversations. There is no narrator steering the story; it is built from observation, letting the odd pairing of a puppeteer and an older passerby speak for itself. The result is a compact character study of connection found in an unglamorous corner of city life, less about performance than about what keeps two very different people showing up for each other.
