Sam Bankman-Fried spent two years as crypto's golden boy, praised in Congress and courted by celebrities before FTX collapsed in November 2022 and wiped out billions in customer funds almost overnight. This film traces how a Jane Street trader turned effective-altruism evangelist built an exchange and a sister trading firm, Alameda Research, that quietly used client deposits to cover its own bets. Interviews with journalists, former employees, and industry figures who dealt with Bankman-Fried lay out the mechanics of the fraud: the commingled accounts, the Bahamas penthouse lifestyle, the political donations that bought him access in Washington. Courtroom footage and news archive mark the fall, from the leaked balance sheet that triggered a bank run to the guilty verdict that followed. The film is less interested in blockchain mechanics than in the personalities and blind trust that let one 30-year-old control billions with almost no oversight, and in how an industry built on skepticism of institutions ended up worshipping one man instead.
