Scam City: Barcelona
Barcelona draws more tourists than almost any city in Europe, and with them comes one of the highest concentrations of pickpockets and street con artists anywhere in the world. Host Conor Woodman goes undercover in the Gothic Quarter and along Las Ramblas to meet the operators working the crowds, from bag-slashers who work in coordinated teams to scammers running rigged street games for cash. He talks his way into the confidence of thieves who explain their methods on camera, and sits with the police officers trying to contain a problem that shifts as fast as they can respond to it. Woodman also tracks how stolen phones, wallets, and passports move afterward, following the informal economy that turns a moment's distraction into a paying trade. The film keeps its focus street-level and practical, building its case scene by scene rather than through statistics, and leaves a clear picture of why a sunny tourist city has become a training ground for some of Europe's most efficient thieves.
