People with visible scars talk about what it is like to move through the world when strangers notice their bodies before they notice anything else. The film gathers first-person accounts of the daily social friction that comes with a scar on the face, arms, or hands: people who stare, people who ask blunt questions, and people who look away rather than meet their eyes. Subjects describe the internal work of deciding how to respond in each of those moments, in public spaces, at work, and with new acquaintances, and how the reactions of others shape their own sense of their appearance over time. Running under twenty minutes, the film stays close to these interviews rather than bringing in medical experts or statistics, letting the subjects describe their own coping strategies and the gap between how they see themselves and how others react to them.
