Scattering Amplitudes + Dualities at Infinity (Part 1)
Nima Arkani-Hamed of the Institute for Advanced Study opens a two-part talk on scattering amplitudes and the dualities that appear when kinematic variables are pushed to infinity, part of the Prospects in Theoretical Physics 2026 program. He works through the structures physicists use to compute how particles scatter in quantum field theory, the kind of calculation that underlies collider predictions, and argues that many of these structures become clearer, not messier, in extreme limits where older methods break down. Expect the blackboard style typical of IAS physics talks: dense notation, geometric pictures of amplitude spaces, and asides connecting the formal mathematics to broader questions about what is fundamental in quantum field theory. As a first installment, it lays groundwork for a second session rather than reaching a final result, and is aimed at an audience already fluent in quantum field theory and amplitude methods.
