Vatican City is the smallest internationally recognized state in the world, a walled enclave of roughly 44 hectares inside Rome with a population of about 842 people, and this film goes looking for what sits behind those walls. Cameras move through the grounds and buildings that make up the papal city-state, covering the territory tourists rarely see alongside the more familiar galleries and basilicas. The film treats the Vatican as both a working nation, with its own governance and border, and the administrative center of the Catholic Church, and lets that dual identity carry the story rather than leaning on scandal or speculation. Without narration built around named officials or a driving investigative question, it functions more as a guided look at a place defined by scale: a country smaller than most city parks that still runs its own postal service, media operation, and head of state. The interest here is geographic and institutional, a small nation examined mostly through its architecture and daily function.
