Wagner Group emerged from obscurity into international headlines as Russia's most notorious private military company, and this film traces how a force with no official standing became a tool of Kremlin foreign policy. It follows the outfit's founder, Yevgeny Prigozhin, from caterer to warlord, and the mercenaries he sent into Syria, Libya, the Central African Republic, and Mali, often propping up governments in exchange for mining rights and political influence. Interviews and archival footage lay out how Wagner let Moscow project force abroad while denying any state connection, a deniability that collapsed once its fighters turned up leading assaults in Ukraine. The film treats Wagner's brutality in Africa and its mutiny against the Russian military command as two sides of the same story: a private army that grew powerful enough to threaten the state that created it. It closes on the unresolved question of what became of Wagner's network after Prigozhin's death, and who inherited its contracts.
