In April 1944, two Jewish prisoners, Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler, escaped from Auschwitz and produced a detailed report on the camp's gas chambers and extermination machinery, the first such account to reach the outside world in forensic detail. This film follows how that report traveled through Allied intelligence channels and landed on the desks of officials in Washington and London, forcing a question that had no clean answer: could bombing the camp or the rail lines feeding it save lives, or would it simply kill the prisoners the raid was meant to help. Historians walk through the military logistics of the time, the competing demands on Allied bombers, and the political caution inside the War Refugee Board and the RAF. Archival photographs, maps of the camp's layout, and period documents anchor the account, while interviews lay out why the raid never happened and what was known, and by whom, at each stage of the decision. It is a study of moral calculation under incomplete information, not a verdict handed down after the fact.
