Skate World: Sweden
Pontus Alv and his crew of Malmo skaters build their own version of street skating rather than wait for a skatepark to open. This first episode of the series follows them from Savanna Side, a spot that no longer exists, to the Train Banks, a rougher, more exposed location where the filming favors handheld footage of actual runs over talking-head narration. The point is DIY in the literal sense: no permits, no manicured ledges, just concrete the city wasn't using and skaters willing to find it. Alv, who directs as well as skates, keeps the camera close to the crew's attempts and falls rather than cutting away to polished highlight reels, and the friendships between riders come through in who spots for whom and who gets hyped on a landed trick. Shot in Malmo and released through VICE, the episode reads as a short, unglamorous record of a specific skate scene rather than a general survey of the sport.
