Somalinimo follows a handful of Somali students trying to find their footing inside one of Britain's most prestigious universities, where the intake of Black and Somali students each year is small enough that standing out is unavoidable. Interviews carry the film: students talk through what it feels like to walk into lecture halls, formal dinners, and societies built for a different kind of student, and how they hold onto a sense of Somali identity, the somalinimo of the title, while doing it. The camera follows them across campus and into more private moments where they talk about family expectations, race, and belonging without a lecturer or narrator mediating the conversation. There's no reenactment or archival material here, just testimony from people living the situation in real time. It's a short, focused piece about what it costs to be visibly different in a space built around blending in.
