Fiji's more than 300 islands scatter across the South Pacific, but only about 100 are inhabited, and this film follows three people whose lives run through them. On Benga, Manasa Bulivou dives inside the shelter of the barrier reef with his son Tumbi to feed the sharks his community treats as guardian spirits, a ritual filmed at close range in open water. Hannah Bennett, a competitive surfer, travels to Cloudbreak, one of the world's most famous reef breaks, chasing the wave that defines her sport. Rugby coach Franck Boivert works the opposite angle, touring remote outlying villages in search of raw talent, since rugby is something close to a national obsession in Fiji. The three stories run in parallel rather than intercut into one argument, letting diving, surfing, and sport sit side by side as different ways islanders relate to the sea and each other. Underwater cinematography and handheld village footage carry most of the film, with narration filling in context rather than driving the story.
